Plan Overview

You can have your employer set aside or defer 10% to 33% of your salary for a period of 12 to 72 months. The salary set aside must finance an approved leave of absence for any duration(s) between six to 12 months.

Eligibility

Permanent full-time employees and those appointed by Order-in-Council who have completed a least one year of continuous service are eligible to take part in the Plan.

Coverage

Dental and health benefits

If you are a member of the Public Employees Dental Plan and the Extended Health Care Plan, your coverage continues and benefits remain in effect.

Group Life insurance

Coverage and benefits continue based on your gross pre-deferral salary.

Long-term disability

If you are a member of the Public Employees Disability Income Plan, your coverage continues and benefits remain in effect. Your benefits are based on your gross pre-deferral salary.

If you are a member of the SGEU LTD Plan, there is no provision for premiums to be deducted during the leave of absence period. Premium payments are to be arranged with the SGEU office.

Pension contributions (PEPP)

Employee and employer pension contributions continue based on your gross pre‑deferral salary.

How to enrol

Complete the  Deferred Salary Leave Plan application form to enrol. Enrolment must be at least eight weeks before the deferral period start date.

Contributions to the Plan commence on the pay period selected.

Submit a completed application form at least eight weeks before starting to contribute towards your leave.
